The best cookies in NYC

While most people my age love spending their weekends drinking with friends, I rather dedicate my time to finding the best cookies in New York. Don’t get me wrong, drinking with friends is fine, but I just prefer my calories in cookie form. And when you have sweet tooth like me, you have to make a choice between drinks or desserts. Desserts always win.

City cakes

Tucked away in a basement, you will find a small shop selling the heaviest cookies in New York. The half pound cookies are available in various flavors, including a classic chewy oatmeal raisin, signature sugardoodle, and triple chocolate spice. But the gold medal in this cookie line up goes to the red velvet cookie, filled with an abundance of cream cheese that makes each bite soft and sweet.

Baked Tribeca

Who would have thought a delicious chocolate cookie would be gluten-free? Not me, that’s for sure. The chocolate cloud cookie at Baked Tribeca is made with rice flour – not that you can tell – and chocolate. Lots of chocolate. While the cookie carries a slightly crisp on the outside, it’s very cakey and moist on the inside. This one is for all those chocaholics.

By Chloe

When there’s a cookie the size of your head, you get it. The gigantic chocolate chip cookie at By Chloe is extremely thin – unlike my waistline after eating it – and crispy. It’s topped with dark chocolate chips, while infused with espresso and subtle hints of cinnamon. A cookie that tastes likes coffee is basically a well-rounded breakfast. Did I mention it’s vegan?

Ben’s cookies

I couldn’t decide if it was a good or a bad thing Ben’s cookies opened a location in New York. The famous cookies from England – baked with chunks instead of chips – are very hard to resist, testing my self-control every time I walk pass the store. What makes Ben’s cookies stand out is their big selection of flavors, including traditional English favorites such as fruit and nut or orange and milk chocolate. And as someone who always struggles to find white-chocolate treats in the city, I love their variety of white chocolate cookies – those big white chocolate chunks are heaven.

Boulton and Watt

No, this isn’t your usual grab-and-go kind of cookie, but it was too good not to mention in this list. The cast-iron cookie at Boulton and Watt is a reason alone to visit the restaurant, served flaming hot with a jug of cold milk on the side. The chocolate chip cookie is super soft and fluffy, comforting you with every bite. Skip dinner, and go straight to dessert – we all know that’s the best part.

Levain Bakery

Have you really lived if you haven’t tried Levain’s cookies? The answer is clearly no. Nothing quite beats Levain Bakery. Crunchy on the outside, while extremely soft and gooey on the inside. Buttery, chunky and warm – this is cookie perfection. The dark chocolate cookie is like a chocolate bomb that melts in your mouth, while the chocolate chip with walnuts, and oatmeal raisin cookies are more nutty and subtle. Just try them all, life’s too short.

Sprinkles

I discovered this cookie by chance, when I ordered an ice cream sandwich between two cookies – not knowing the chocolate cookie was going to steal the show. Sprinkles double chocolate cookie is packed with fudgy dark chocolate and white chocolate chips, creating the richest chocolate cookie in New York. The intense chocolate tastes similar to a brownie, yet it provides that crunchy texture we look for in a cookie.
